NOTICE:Revised the content of DAN Japan Insurance !

The content of insurance was reviewed as the generation accident number in recent years increased as follows.
Please understand the situation in which the continuance of the insurance regime becomes difficult when a similar tendency continues, enjoy a safe and comfortable diving.

The accident happens frequently to our regret about "Death and residual disability" in recent years, and enormous amount of damage occurs. It reduced recently to improve consideration to safety further, and new system "Joyful support" was prepared as insurance in which currrent amends were supplemented. Please examine the joining by all means about insurance because it is a content corresponding to various accidents in diving though only the member becomes a load of not being..

Amends have been increased about "Hospitalization" based on the expansion of the medical expense in recent years (Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfase "Trend of a recent medical expense.")

  • The coverage amount will be reviseeed from January31,2009.
  • It will apply to the DAN Japan members who will be joining after January31,2009.

Membership Regulations

Rules: Section 17; March 24, 1992

Article 1: General Rules

The rules stated in this version of Membership Regulations cover the administration and preparation of emergency medication support system concerning diving, which is regulated by Clause 5 of Article 4 of Contribution Act of Japan Marine Recreation Association, abbreviated henceforth as the Association.

Article 2: Name of the Organization

The Membership Regulations stipulates the name of the organization that deals with the emergency medication and related support system as the Divers Alert Network Japan, abbreviated henceforth as DAN JAPAN.

Article 3: A member

  1. Anyone seeking the services of DAN JAPAN must become a member of DAN JAPAN.
  2. Membership categories are specified as General member, Instructor member and Sponsor member.

Article 4: Qualifying for membership

To qualify for the category of general member or instructor member, the requirements are that DAN JAPAN approves of the application for membership and that one possess a certificate of completion of a Dive Training Course issued by a training agency that is approved by the present Association.

Article 5: Application for Membership

An individual wanting to become a member should apply to DAN JAPAN or any other organization designated by the Association after completing necessary details in an the application for obtaining membership, (henceforth referred to as membership application).

Article 6: Commencement of membership

A general membership or an instructor membership becomes valid from the date on which approval has been given by a screening committee appointed by the president of the Association after DAN JAPAN has received the membership application.

Article 7: Issuing of Membership Card

  1. DAN JAPAN issues a membership card to its members.
  2. In the event of destruction or loss of a membership card, re-issuing of a new membership card can be arranged on application to DAN JAPAN.
  3. Period of validity of a membership card is one year from the date of issuing of the card. However, continuous renewal can be arranged by a standard procedure.

Article 8: Altering Facts Reported

Whenever there arise changes to previously reported items in a member's application form, a member should report without delay such to DAN JAPAN.

Article 9: Notifying Members

DAN JAPAN considers that it has notified its members when it has made a dispatch of materials or other documents to its members.

Article 10: Services

A member can receive the services summarized in the following list of items.

  1. In case of decompression illness, seeking consultation on Emergency medical care by telephone.
  2. Obtaining telephone consultation on the safety of Leisure activities or Scuba diving activities.
  3. Receiving a handbook containing emergency contacts and emergency measures, and news bulletins or other information related to DAN JAPAN.
  4. Be entitled to a scuba diving insurance (referred to henceforth as DAN Insurance),which is provided in agreement with an insurance company for the safeguard of DAN JAPAN members (excluding sponsor members,however) against accidents resulting from recreational diving while being engaged in such diving activities domestically or overseas.
  5. Receiving other information regarding safety of diving activities.
    When a member receives the services stated in items 1 to 3 above, DAN JAPAN is not responsible in whatsoever manner to the member though it could be a moment of loss for the member.

Article 11: Membership fee

A member must pay the membership fee.

  • The amount of above membership fee, method of payment and other matters related to membership fee are determined especially by the president of the Association.
  • The membership fee, once paid, can not be refunded under no circumstances.

Article 12: Termination of Membership

The Association can dispose a member of the membership when a member is found to comply with one of the following items by an investigating committee that has agreed upon.

  1. DAN JAPAN's businesses are intentionally obstructed.
  2. The present regulations or other rules decided by the Association are violated.
  3. DAN JAPAN is dishonored, its trust is breached or its order disrupted.
  4. The membership application is found to contain false information.

Article 13: Loss of Membership

A member will lose the membership status when one of the following conditions are satisfied:

  1. Provided that the membership fee has not been paid before due time, a member will lose the membership status if the member does not pay the membership fee within a reasonable amount of time after the notification by DAN JAPAN.
    In this case, the membership status is deprived of, dating back to the time when the membership fee was due.
  2. A member will also lose the membership status if the member applies for membership withdrawal.
  3. A member will also lose the membership status when the member is deceased.
  • If a member losses its membership status due to Article 12 or the above article, membership card should be promptly returned to DAN JAPAN.

Article 14: Member's Insurance

A member of DAN JAPAN becomes a contracting party of Corporate Insurance of DAN JAPAN, making that member an insured person (with the exception of sponsor members).

Article 15: Limitations on operations or abolition of the enterprise

The Association can shut down DAN JAPAN in part or as a whole, or it can impose limitations on its operations when there occurs a hindrance to the administration of DAN JAPAN owing to a natural disaster, enactment or abolishment of laws and ordinances, an administrative decision, sudden changes in the social,or economic affairs, or other unavoidable reasons.

  • In the above case, a member can not claim for compensation from the Association or can not engage in whatsoever form of formal objections against the Association.

Article 16: Notifying Abolition of the enterprise

When a part or the whole of DAN JAPAN is to be abolished, the Association will notify its members, except in unavoidable circumstances such as a natural hazard, three months prior to the abolition.

  • The above abolition notice is published in several daily-based newspapers.

Article 17: Abolition of the enterprise in whole

When the entire DAN JAPAN is abolished, a member's membership is naturally considered to be terminated.

Article 18: Miscellaneous

Other than those provided for by the Membership Regulations, necessary particulars concerning members are determined by the president of the Association.

Additional Rules:

  • The Membership Regulations were enforced on March 24, 1992 and are in effect from January 16, 1992.
  • This revised Membership Regulations are effective from April 1, 1997.

This code determines matters concerning the administration and other activities of DAN JAPAN, based on Membership Regulations (Section 17 of The Rules Act effective since March 24, 1992) of Divers Alert Network, which is administrated by Japan Marine Recreation Association, abbreviated henceforth as the Association.

Article 2: Membership Application Form

Membership application forms referred to in the Article 5 of Membership Regulations have the formats specified below:

  1. General membership application form Format 1
  2. Instructor membership application form Format 2
  3. Sponsor membership application form Format 3

Article 3: Member's card

Member's card referred to in the Clause 1 of Article 7 of Membership Regulations has two formats specified by the Formats 4.1 and 4.2 given below.

Article 4: Membership fee

Clause 2 of Article 11 of Membership Regulations refers to Membership fees are as listed below and must be transferred to a bank account or other account as specified by the Association.

  1. General member 5,000 Yen/ Year
  2. Instructor member  5,000 Yen/ Year
  3. Sponsor member 10,000 Yen per Share/ Year

Article 5: DAN Insurance

DAN Insurance referred to in Article 14 of Membership Regulations is as detailed in Table 1.

Article 6:Miscellaneous

The Association has possibility to amalgamate with a credit card company. In such an event, the appropriate credit card company shall determine matters related to the membership application and issuance of member's card.

  • Membership fee in the above case shall be the same amount as specified

The rules were enforced on April 1, 1992 and are effective from January 16, 1992.

Out-line of DAN Japan Diving Insurance

Member of DAN Japan shell be autometically insured under the following two kinds of insurance contract concluded between Japan Marine Recreation Association and Mitsui Sumitomo Insurance Co.,Ltd as representative among the concerned insurers.

By the above mentioned contract, the following insurance benefits shell be paid as the result of a sudden and unexpected external accident while participating in leisure scuba diving during foreign travel as well as within Japan.

The insured is kindly required to contact the Association or assistance service center written in the right immediately, mentioning your member's number of DAN Japan, the member of which is insured by Mitsui Sumitomo Insurance Co., Ltd

  • (*1) Foreign Travel Accident Insurance is effective for three months per one time.
  • (*2) Please refer to respective Insurance Summary regarding details of Coverage.

Review for enrollment will take place after membership application has been received. The Association will notify the applicant once the enrollment has been approved, and membership fee is then required to be deposited in a bank designated by the Association.
